Objectives

Basic goals of the research area in economic history are to: promote the exchange of ideas among EAEPE member economic historians; present new research in economic history; and enhance the creative discourse between economists and economic historians. The exploration of ˜common grounds' in economic history and evolutionary / institutional economics is also a major interest.

Scholars and especially graduate students or recent PhD's in economic history are encouraged to send abstracts of their work/ theses to be posted on this Research Area page of the EAEPE site.

Activities at the Annual EAEPE Conferences

The activities of the Research Area include sessions in the EAEPE November Conferences since 1999. The Themes have been:

  • 'Institutions in a Historical Context in Prague', 1999;
  • 'Later Nineteenth Century European Political Economy' in Berlin, 2000;
  • 'Comparing economic institutions without economic history does not make sense' in Siena, 2001;
  • 'Institutions, Economic History and Braudel' in Aix-en Provence, 2002.
  • 'Technological and knowledge aspects of business history' in Maastricht 2003
  • 'Economics, History and Development’ (I,II,III) in Crete, 2004.
  • 'Global Economic History Network Invited Session’, in Bremen, 2005.
